Stake Ether withdrawals through the launch of Ethereum's Shanghai Hard Fork have been tentatively scheduled to commence in March 2023, as decided by core programmers during the 151st Ethereum Core Developers Meeting.

In addition, the Ethereum Improvement Protocol (EIP) 4844 update, which would provide proto-danksharding to the network, is expected to be released by developers in May or June 2023.

Ethereum's Staked Ether (stETH) is now unavailable outside of the Ethereum Beacon Chain, despite the groundbreaking proof-of-stake Merge update going live on September 15. Users of stETH will be able to cash out their money and any staking incentives earned through verifying network transactions after the Shanghai upgrade.

EIP-4844 is being upgraded after the hard fork, which will usher in a new data-blob transaction prototype. Optimistic rollups are an example of a layer-2 technology that may be used to offload Ethereum's processing and network storage, increasing its scalability by a factor of ten to a hundred.

The developers of Ethereum believe that the capacity of rollups may be increased by a factor of 100 just by including big portable bundles that contain inexpensive data in transactions. It's important to note that although the update would reduce transaction costs on a layer-2 solution, the Ethereum gas charge will not change.

The Ethereum Foundation has said that the upgrades were planned in this fashion to facilitate a smooth migration to proof-of-stake while also minimizing disruptions to the network.
