In Switzerland, McDonald's is currently accepting both Bitcoin and Tether

McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food restaurant, now accepts Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) in the Swiss city of Lugano. Because of this program, McDonald's is now one of the most popular places in Western Europe to use cryptocurrency.

It's also worth noting that Mastercard has launched a new tool called Crypto Secure, and that Shopify's founder put $3 million into Coinbase in only two months.

Bitcoin Magazine's tweet of a one-minute video showing someone placing an order at a McDonald's digital kiosk and paying using a mobile app made headlines. Furthermore, the Tether (USDT) logo was also seen on the credit cash machine, located just next to the Bitcoin icon.

In March 2022, Lugano announced that it would begin accepting Bitcoin, Tether, and the LVGA token as legal money, prompting this change.

The city also signed a memorandum of understanding with Tether Operations Limited, kicking off "Plan B." According to this strategy, Tether has established two separate funds, the first of which is a 100 million Swiss franc investment pool for cryptocurrency businesses valued at $106 million.

The other is around 3 million Swiss francs (or $3 million), and it will be used to promote the use of cryptocurrency among Lugano's retail establishments.
