The Azurbala NFT Mint has been delayed because of the negative attention that has been brought to the artwork

Azurbala, a Bored Ape Yacht Club-inspired PFP collection, has gathered more than $3.6 million in sales volume on OpenSea for its mint passes. Tally Labs' latest initiative is part of a bigger storytelling ecosystem that will see the publication of a book based in the Bored Ape world authored by real novelist Neil Strauss.

Despite being in development for over a year, the project's cast of unprofessional reptilian figures received mixed reactions when a video of the art reveal was shared on Friday.

On Monday, Bored Ape's Jenkins the Valet, who serves as the project's social media steward, announced on Twitter that the minting of the collection had been delayed.

Since the disappointing debut, some have been willing to sell their pristine tokens of the collection for less money. After the video was shared, the minimum purchase price for a "Bored and Dangerous" NFT on OpenSea dropped from around 0.52 ETH (about $676) to approximately 0.26 ETH (roughly US $341). The NFT collection garnered $70 million to develop a Pokemon-style computer game, but the release of blocky, meme-worthy artwork eventually sank its momentum, drawing analogies to the Pixelmon story from March of last year.

In spite of the artwork disagreement, Azurbala seems stronger than the Pixelmon squad. Leaders of the project said they want to learn from this week's setback and use it to improve the next version of the artwork. At the time of writing, there are over 1,500 active participants in the Azurbala Discord channel. There's also a chatroom on the Discord where you may get hints about the future interactions between the characters.

The project's cartoon mascot, Jenkins, has also grown professionally; the Bored Ape persona is now represented by CAA, a prominent talent agency that began representing Web3 clients, fictitious and otherwise, early this year.
